When a customer hired a competitor to install the foundations for a carport, it very nearly ended in tears.

The challenge

Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
A six ground screw installation was required for a carport on the driveway of a pretty cottage. The customer booked the services of a ground screw franchise company based in London to carry out the installation after conversations with their representative. Unfortunately, when the contractor arrived, things began to go wrong. Having limited English, the installer was unable to read the plans and it was left to the client to set out the locations of the foundations. Broken and incorrect machinery meant that neat core holes could not be done and eventually a hole was simply smashed in the driveway. After an attempt was made to install a ground screw, the client was told that it was ‘impossible’ and the contractor left, leaving an unsightly hole in the floor and no foundations in place.

The solution

The customer contacted GBGS and explained the situation. Our Head Office team dispatched our local area installer later that day to carry out a survey, and after clarifying what was required, an installation was booked for two days later. Our skilled operatives installed all six ground screws through neatly cored holes within two hours. The client was delighted with the result stating “I cannot thank you and your team enough for doing what was advised as impossible. When I was at my lowest, you provided me with the reassurance that ‘anything is possible”

Update – Steve, the client recently contacted us to say that the whole job went without a hitch, including building control approval. We think the end result looks superb.
